Thai Yoga Massage – A technique of assisted manipulation of the body into poses combined with deep massage. Thai yoga massage, also simply called Thai massage, is a 2,500-year-old Ayurvedic-based body science. In this modality, a trained Thai Yoga massage therapist stretches a person with specific, assisted yoga poses. The philosophy behind Thai yoga massage techniques focuses on energy points called “sen.” As the Thai massage therapist stretches the participant, she also presses and massages along the sen lines or points. The therapist presses knuckles, feet, hands, thumbs and fingers into specific points while holding the participant in a stretch. This combined effort relieves areas of muscular stress and tension. Techniques involve stretching myofascial tissue; acupressure; compression of tissue; and manipulation of soft tissue. Thai Yoga Massage has been found to lead to the release of muscular tension, a boosted immune system, improved circulation, and the release of mental and emotional stress.

Acupuncture – Acupuncture is an ancient system of medicine that aims at the creation and maintenance of health along with the treatment of pain and disease.  In acupuncture, it is understood that any sickness or symptom is the result of some imbalance of energy in the body as a whole.  Acupuncture is a means of readjusting or balancing the energy in us: we can improve the quality, redistribute the quantity, and free the energy to flow more smoothly.  Whether the client has knee pain, a headache, indigestion, or severe depression, it is understood that these signals the mind-body-spirit produces express the same thing: that within the person is an imbalance of this vital energy.  The practitioner uses the fourteen meridians to evaluate the state of energy within.  These meridians, along with other diagnostic tools and information provided by the client, begin to tell us what is wrong and how to put it right.

Cupping Therapy – Cupping therapy involves placing specialized cups which create suction on the surface of the skin. The suction creates a negative pressure and slightly pulls the skin, fascia and muscle tissue into the cup. It is a comfortable process which only lasts a few minutes. Cupping therapy is used to relieve pain, increase circulation and treat migraines and high blood pressure. Many people are familiar with the cupping in the 2016 Olympics. Not every body gets cupping marks, although it is fairly common and is not painful like a bruise is. Cupping marks generally disappear within one week and people generally notice improvement of their condition immediately after the cupping session.

Cranio Sacral Therapy – This form of light touch therapy regulates the flow of cerebrospinal fluid which nourishes the brain, spinal cord and nerves.  When the fluid is restricted, it may manifest in  a variety of problems.  When the fluid is free flowing as nature intended, health may be restored.  Patients usually report deep relaxation, a sense of well being and improved sleep.

 (60-minute session for $80.00)

Thai Reflexology – A deeply relaxing and energizing bodywork that involves light acupressure to stimulate organ reflex points on the lower legs and the feet, hands-on stretching, and the stimulation of energy channels (known as Sen lines).  Thai Reflexology improves overall circulation and lymph flow, improves flexibility and range of motion, relieves stress, and assists homeostasis and balance.  Wear loose fitted flexible pants that can be rolled up to the knee. Avoid eating for 1 hour before the session.

Private Yoga Therapy Sessions – Private yoga Therapy sessions are individualized practices with one of our highly trained yoga therapists. These sessions are crafted to address the very specific needs and goals of the client and include not only individualized work at the session, but a tailored home-practice plan for the client. This is a perfect way to either begin your own practice, profoundly deepen an existing practice, or to address specific issues and discomforts in your mind and body. A wide variety of situations may be addressed in a session, including anxiety, depression, life transitions, insomnia, pain, chronic health conditions, or rehabilitation from trauma and injury. Jin Shin Jyutsu – What is it? Jin Shin Jyutsu is a very relaxing bodywork art form. All of us have energy pathways that, when flowing smoothly, allow for optimal health. Blockages result in discomfort, pain, and disease. JSJ is aimed at restoring one’s natural birthright of harmony and balance by keeping these pathways flowing throughout.  What is a session like? There are 26 points or SELs (safety energy locks) on each side of the body that provide access to communicate with these energy pathways. The receiver is fully clothed while the practitioner uses a ‘flow,’ or a sequence of holding these points with a light touch in a process referred to as ‘jumper cabling.’ The practitioner begins a session by reading the recipient’s energetic pulses to determine which flows are needed. Typically, 2-3 flows are used to help bring about the recipients’ own harmonious state. People who have received JSJ treatments report a profoundly relaxed state immediately following a treatment.

                               (50-minute session for $50.00)

Reiki – Energy Healing- This is a Japanese technique that promotes healing, reduces stress and aids in relaxation. Practitioners place hands gently on or closely above the recipient with the idea that an unseen, life-force energy flows from them and into the client, thereby encouraging healing and release. If one’s “life force energy” is low, then that person is more likely to get sick or feel stress. If it is high, one is more capable of being happy and healthy. Thus, Reiki is a simple, natural, and safe method of spiritual healing and self-improvement that allows the recipient to “recharge” their energies and find balance. A Reiki session lasts between 60 and 90 minutes. Sessions at Centerpeace are performed by a Reiki Practitioner (RP or RMT) using specific Reiki hand positions. During a Reiki session, the client is fully clothed while comfortably reclining on a massage table or seated in a chair. Along with stress-reduction and relaxation, Reiki has shown effectiveness in alleviating the symptoms of many illnesses. It is safe to use in combination of other traditional medical or therapeutic techniques, and it is often reported to ease side effects of those therapies and to promote recovery.

Rosen Method Bodywork –Rosen Method bodywork is a gentle, meditative bodywork that uses touch and some talk to explore unconscious tension and to enhance relaxation and awareness. Rosen Method is for people who wish to explore themselves with respect and acceptance – without being manipulated or “fixed”. It is for people who want to come home to themselves and find peace and wisdom within. It is for people who want to feel grounded in the body and connected with Life. You can read more about Rosen Method bodywork at http://www.rosenmethod.com, and you are welcome to contact Susanna for inquiries.
Susanna views the embodied experience as a resource for coping with and enjoying life. Since the 1970’s, she has studied multiple healing modalities and has provided touch therapies in private practice and clinical settings. Her PhD involved a grounded theory study of Rosen Method Bodywork. Her bodywork approach is informed by personal practices and professional integration of meditation, guided imagery, biofeedback, yoga and holistic nursing. Although Rosen Method bodywork is different from pain management and from psychotherapy, Susanna’s clinical practice in these areas informs her bodywork.

Henna Body Art – Enjoy a warming cup of tea while choosing a design to adorn that beautiful belly, hand, or foot of yours!  Sessions typically last  30-90 minutes. Appointment times outside of online availability may be available upon request. What is henna? Like its contemporaries, coffee, tea and chocolate, henna is one of the most well known botanicals on earth and has been used for thousands of years. Although body adornment is one of its most popular uses, henna has been used as a perfume, a medicine and was even used as a form of currency. Henna designs are a great way to celebrate special occasions as well as life transitions in many cultures through out the world. Our natural henna paste is made of lemon, water and occasionally some lavender essential oil that is applied to the skin in a design that will last 7-10 days. After the henna paste has dried on the skin, it will need at least an hour to dry and then the paste may be peeled off leaving a stain that darkens over the next few days. It will be most vibrant a day or two after the original application. Alyssa, our henna artist offers the perfect atmosphere for you to relax and receive your beautiful body adornment. How do I prepare? It is best to come with clean and dry (no oily moisturizers) skin to your appointment. Also make sure to wear something comfortable but also an outfit you do not mind getting a little henna on (just in case). Please arrive 15 mins prior to appointment time. **You cannot receive henna if you are severely anemic or have a G6PD deficiency**
